1. Recap of Green Hydrogen Education & Lobby Day
Earlier this month, the Green Hydrogen Coalition (GHC) hosted its annual Green Hydrogen Education and Lobby Day in Sacramento, CA. It was a successful and impactful gathering where Supporters across the value chain and other green hydrogen champions could strengthen connections as well as educate key legislators on green hydrogen-related issues and legislation.
Three teams comprised of GHC staff, GHC supporters, associated guests, and Resolute lobbyists successfully met with 12 California State Senators and 24 Assembly members. Key highlights from the impactful event include legislators expressing the need for more education on green hydrogen and lawmakers wanting to know more about what they could do in the next legislative season.
We are so grateful to everyone who came to Sacramento, including reception keynote speakers Senator Josh Becker and California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development Senior Advisor for Clean Infrastructure and Mobility Tyson Eckerle.
This event was made possible by the generous donation from Energy Vault!
2. New Release: "Clean Hydrogen and Grid Reliability: Overview of Potential Use Cases and Considerations for States"
Clean hydrogen has a potential role to play as states aim to reduce emissions in the electric sector.
Developed by the Western Green Hydrogen Initiative (WGHI), this brief provides an overview of the benefits and challenges associated with clean hydrogen for two specific electric sector use cases — long-duration energy storage (LDES) and microgrids — with the aim of aiding state leaders in evaluating clean hydrogen initiatives as part of their statewide planning efforts.
This brief also focuses on elucidating key use cases of clean hydrogen for informed consideration. Key use cases may include hydrogen for LDES and fuel cells for microgrid applications.
Further, as hydrogen is deployed to meet these use cases, the electrolyzers constructed to produce hydrogen can be leveraged as a flexible load for grid balancing. To enable these applications of hydrogen, states can undertake three key efforts that are outlined in this brief.
GHC Founder and President Janice Lin led a dynamic discussion on “Hydrogen’s Role in the Future of Global Decarbonization” at Hydrogen Americas Summit. Janice was joined by a distinguished panel including Sonia Maleky from Microsoft, Makini Byron from Linde, Rafael Fejervary from SLB, and Beth Trask from the Environmental Defense Fund.
