1. HyBuild™ North America: Contract Workstream Launch
The Green Hydrogen Coalition (GHC) launched its HyBuild™ North America initiative in 2020 to accelerate the development of scaled green hydrogen (GH2) hubs. HyBuild North America’s strategic approach is based on aggregating multi-sectoral demand for GH2 in targeted locations. This enables scaled GH2 production facilities and needed shared transport and storage infrastructure to be designed and developed together from the beginning. The goal: achieve mass-scale supply certainty and low delivered cost (<$2/kg delivered). By solving for this goal, the GHC believes that it can accelerate more rapid fuel switching away from fossil fuels towards GH2 and its derivative products. In so doing, we can accelerate the realization of a clean and just energy transition.
To date, the HyBuild North America initiative has architected two regional hubs at scale, “HyBuild Los Angeles” and “HyBuild Carolinas." Key findings from both regional hub initiatives indicate that scaled GH2 hubs are achievable, delivering mass-scale renewable hydrogen at <$2/kg at the pipeline.
About the HyBuild™ North America Contracts Workstream
The GHC is excited to announce its next HyBuild North America Initiative, Contracts Workstream, to facilitate clean and GH2 market liftoff nationally. Jointly led by Sheppard Mullin, a national clean energy transactional law firm, this workstream will engage with potential at-scale GH2 buyers to identify issues and key risks associated with GH2 procurement.
Available to all GHC Supporters, this effort will create a framework that identifies the issues, requirements, and allocation of risks that must underpin hydrogen purchase agreements, including regionally specific considerations. This work also aims to form a hypothesis on actions (policy, market mechanism, etc.) to close the green premium gap and is intended to help improve the efficiency and efficacy of GH2 procurement nationally.
